About FIT

- Memorial Hall, Fredericton_edited.jpg

Falling Iguana Theatre (FIT) is a Toronto-based physical theatre company created by award-winning artists Alexa Higgins and Ian Ottis Goff. FIT is dedicated to creating original, wildly entertaining, and heart-filled works of art. All of its work features elements of physical theatre, as well as original music and sound design. FIT’s productions are known for being fast-paced, ambitious, and female-driven.

It all started with Diana.

Falling Iguana Theatre was formed in 2018 ahead of the Island Fringe Festival in Charlottetown, where it premiered its first play, DIANA (I knew you when we were fourteen). Next, Falling Iguana performed DIANA in 2019, selected as the U of T alumni performance project in Toronto. DIANA was then performed twice virtually in 2020 during the COVID pandemic, first through The National Arts Centre's Canada Performs initiative and then at Solo Chicken Production's Groundworks Conference. In 2023, DIANA was presented for the 5th time at the ON THE EDGE Fringe Festival in North Bay, where it was honoured with the "Outstanding Production" award!

FIT's second original production, 81 Minutes, was chosen as the mainstage production of the NotaBle Acts Theatre Festival, in 2021. It was a runaway hit with an entirely sold-out run! In 2022, FIT took 81 Minutes on tour to Fredericton, NB, Sackville NB (presented by Live Bait Theatre), and then on to Dartmouth, NS.

Most recently, in 2023, co-AD Alexa Higgins wrote Crane Girl, the first Falling Iguana production solely written by one iguana. Crane Girl was performed as a staged reading at the One Night Only Theatre Festival through Space Space Revolution in Toronto. Crane Girl is currently being developed into a full production.

There are many things brewing at Falling Iguana Theatre, keep your eyes peeled for where the Iguanas fall next!

Falling Iguana Theatre would like to acknowledge that the land on which we operate is the traditional unceded territory of the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee and the Huron-Wendat. We are honoured and grateful to be able to live, work and create art on these lands.

- Co-Artistic Directors Alexa Higgins & Ian Ottis Goff
