ABOUT THE SHOW/COMPANY:

Crane Girl, Hamilton Fringe’s Best New Play Award Winner, and inspired by a real event, is a fictionalized exploration of what might cause a woman with no training, experience, or equipment, to freestyle climb a crane. It follows Jane, a young married woman who, having witnessed a tragic event, suddenly finds herself feeling untethered, enraged, and trapped. Jane can see no way out of the cage she has built around herself until she realizes she should not have been looking for a way out, but rather, up. Every character lives somewhere on the crane, so as Jane continues her thrilling ascent, she comes face to face with the very past she is trying to climb away from. Crane Girl explores rage and women’s bodies, societal constraints, reproductive rights, and what it means to find your voice. It is an urgent rallying call to speak, to rage, to climb away from an antiquated past and towards a feminist future.

Falling Iguana Theatre is an award-winning Toronto-based physical theatre company founded by co-Artistic Directors Alexa Higgins and Ian Ottis Goff. FIT’s work is known for being highly physical, heart-filled, ambitious, and female-driven. FIT’s previous productions DIANA and 81 Minutes have been performed in three provinces and counting! Crane Girl, FIT’s third original production, won the Best New Play Award at the Hamilton Fringe Festival, where it will have its premiere run this summer!
